DIY Knot Pillows
While I was researching how to much the fleece animal pillows on Joann.com, I stumbled across another pillow project. I didn't think much of it at the time because I was so focused on making the animal pillows, but once I finished those pillows and realized how much fleece I had leftover, I knew that this would be a great project to hopefully use up the rest of my fleece.
(Also, it would be an easy project to make some pillows for Mike and I)

So i didn't quite have a full yard of each fabric because I bought them as remnants, but I figured it wouldn't matter that much in the end.
As I was cutting the fleece into strips, I really wish I had the ruler built into my table and the little scissor guide, like they do at Joann Fabrics!
Instead I just used a rotary cuter and quilting ruler to keep my lines straight.
Easy enough and then I turned my strips into one long tube.
So far, so easy!
And then I hit the stuffing stage. The directions aren't very clear on the best way to stuff the tubes other than to make sure you don't over stuff them.
After a couple of attempts at stuffing the tube, I realized the best way was to take a hand full or stuffing at a time and slowly working it to the end of the tube. And once it was at the end I rolled the stuffing a bit to shift the stuffing apart.
Unfortunately, as I was stuffing, I got a little too rough and actually popped a couple of seams.
So I had to whip stitch the tubes back together in a couple of places.
Next was to weave the tubes into knot pillows. This was the most frustrating part of the entire project. There were numerous times, I thought I messed up the knot and threw the pillows across the room. (Thankfully it's soft enough that it didn't break anything.)
Eventually I was able to settle myself down and I was able to figure out how to pull the fleece to make the knot.
And here are how my pillows turned out:
The are a little scrunched compared to the ones pictured on Joann.com. This is probably because I didn't use the full width of a yard of fleece. However, it created a little dip in the center of the pillow which I find is perfect for resting your head in.
The pillows are a little firmer than I like for pillows, but overall I really like them! (And so does Mike!)
