Monday Free Write

Happy Monday All!

At the beginning of the year, I proclaimed that this was going to be the year of adventure for my family (and for the blog!), but I haven't written about many adventures lately. This is mostly because life has gotten a little busy lately and I haven't had time to finish a lot of crafts, let alone have new adventures.

Well, that was until a couple of weeks ago.

For the past couple of months or so, we've been spending at least a couple weekends every month at my mom's house. (Mike's working on her house and its a nice excuse to get away for a couple of days!) Usually we end up going to the beach at least once during our trip and most of the time its all fun and games!

However this last time we went to the beach I decided to challenge myself to swim out to the buoy and back. Its about 300 yards out from the shore and I've attempted to swim to it before, but I've always chickened out about halfway there. (I somehow would just start thinking about all the creatures I could be swimming with and that could possibly attack me while I'm out there. I can never calm myself, so I always just swim back.)

This time, however, I was determined to make it out there. So I just kept swimming and whenever a wayward thought would enter my mind I was able to push it away. And I was able to make it out to the buoy.

Then I made the mistake of looking back to shore. It looked impossibly far away! A paddle boarder paddled by and offered a ride back, but I was determined to do this on my, so I turned him down. And I, somehow, swam back to shore. It was the hardest swim of my life and every time I paused to breathe, I would check to see if the ocean was shallow enough for me to just walk in.

Eventually it was and I slowly walked onto the shore and then to my towel.

As tired as I was, I also felt a huge sense of accomplishment too.
