Happy Monday All!

Over the past couple of weeks it has come to my attention that Reese Witherspoon made some comments on mommy bloggers and how women want more substance than just '14 ways to cook a turkey" I thought the whole thing was silly because, of course, women want and deserve more quality content. Then I read an article about it on Redbook and I realized the deeper impact of her words.

Yes the mommy blogger community is full of sharing ideas and recipes that seem like they would work in the 50's better than they would today, but there is also a community behind the bloggers. A community of mothers offering and lending support to other mothers in need. And in a time where the internet can be a cruel and awful place, its nice to have a community to support you.

However, I agree with Reese on this. Women do want more quality content. I may love to crochet and craft, but generally while I'm doing either of those things, I'm listening to a bunch of different podcasts. I'll listen to anything from true crime to mysteries and conspiracies to what really happened in history. Most of those podcasts are hosted by men. And quite frankly there is no reason why women shouldn't be hosting these podcast or just hosting more podcast in general.

There is also no reason why mommy bloggers shouldn't also be listening to some educational podcasts. (I wouldn't actually recommend true crime podcasts for the average mommy blogger. I just can't imagine she would like that very much.) The best part is that if you really love a podcast, there is generally a Facebook community that goes along with it. For example, my favorite podcast, My Favorite Murder, has a general Facebook group and it also has smaller communities. I've currently joined one for people who like animals and another one for crafters. I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could find a group for parents as well.

My point is that mommy blogs are good (clearly I run one!), but there are also other venues out there for women to enjoy and we should be celebrating those too.
