Monday Free Write

You know over this past week, while I've been working on my projects and posts, I've also been researching a lot of new things and learning how to properly use other things. And all the while the main thing I've learned is that over this past couple of years of really crafting and experimenting.

To think that around this time a year ago, I was barely using my sewing machine. (And even when I did, I wasn't quite sure what I was doing or if I was even doing it right!) And now I have no problem pulling it off the shelf and using it for just about any project I can. It really is amazing. And even after a year I still have so much more to learn. The first step is to keep practicing keeping my seams straight. Once I can master that the world will be my oyster! I guess this proves that practice really will make perfect!

Not only have my sewing skills improved, but the level of projects I'm considering has improved too. Mike the other day asked for pockets on his apron. I almost brushed him off until I realized that I could easily replicate the pockets on my work apron. All I would need was a twin needle to make it happen.

The weird thing is that while I was trying to figure out what size twin needle to buy, I learned how to properly use my sewing machine. I always knew how to sew basic projects on it. But I never knew that the reason the sewing table comes off is so that I sew cuffs or pant legs. So know I can start looking for those types of projects. Or I can just start with fixing the hem on my work pants! Who knows what I'll decided! There are so many ideas now floating around my head! (And clearly I'm very excited about it!)

(And because I've misplaced my sewing machine manual, I went ahead and reprinted a copy for myself. So now I have no excuses for not knowing everything my sewing machine can do!)

I know it seems a little strange... all right its a lot strange, but I really do love what I'm learning and I just had to take the time to share what I'm learning!
