More Crochet Cacti!

A couple weeks I go I shared my crochet cactus. And if you will recall, I mentioned that it was actually one of three different cacti. Ad well I had a little free time (and its easy to crochet and watch the boys!) so I decided to complete my collection.

The Project

Finish All Three Cacti

Instructions from Joann.com

So in my last post I had just made this cactus:

So my first step in completing the cacti set, was to create the other two. The first one I made was the long tube cactus. And in the instructions from Joann.com it suggests using white yarn to create needles around the cactus, but I decided to put flowers around it instead.

And then I recreated the two ball cactus. This time I made sure Blue didn't steal the bigger ball (and turn it into a wrecking ball!). And since I was getting towards the end of my yarn, The smaller ball is the medium dark green color with a hint of light green at the top and my bigger ball is a darker green color.

Once I had all three cacti, I thought I was finished with the project. However the tube cactus wasn't sitting right in the mug, so I decided to go ahead and make the stand for the cactus and I figured if I was going to make a stand for one, I might as well make a stand for them all. Thankfully it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. (And it even worked in my mugs!)

To create the stand all you have to do is cut out 1 1/2 inch cardboard squares, stack them so your cactus is sticking out as high as you like it.

I stacked high enough so the bottom of my cactus was just under the rim of the mug.

Once I was happy with my stack, I hot glued the cardboard squares together.

Next I made a crochet cover for the cardboard stacks. (I used the dark purple brown color from my cherry sweet roll, so it would look like dirt, but you could also just use green yarn.) Once that's finished, I hot glue it tot he top of my stacks and then shoved the stacks into the mugs.

The fun part was trying to then hot glue the cactus on top of the stack. Luckily I had Lion there to help me!

Somehow I was able to figure it all out and voila! I now have a beautiful set of cacti!

I know the two ball cactus looks a little bare compared to the other two. I might add a flower to it in the future or I might add some needles or maybe I'll just leave it alone. I haven't decided yet.
