My First Crochet Cactus
Its no secret that I love Instagram. (And if you aren't following me, well then you should be. Just hit the link the to right. I post a lot of behind the scenes pictures there and also some pictures of Blue and Lion!). And every once in a while I stumble across some really fun projects. Such is the case for the next project.
I was just scrolling through my feed, when I stumbled upon a project to make crochet cacti. I instanstly loved the project and thought it would be a great addition for my desk. (Which is still in a complete state of chaos, but at least a cactus will make it look pretty!). Plus I figured this would be an easy project to get me started with amigurumi crochet projects.

There are three different cacti listed under the project instructions and while I'm pretty I made all of them, I wasn't quite quick enough to keep them away from Blue and Lion. So for this post I'm just going to be writing about the third and final cactus. (And I'm sure I'll write about the other two once I get around to making them again!)
So what I love about the third cacti is that its just worked up making rows.
It was great because I really able to work on keeping my edges straight. And I think I did a pretty good job. (I used a technique I found on pinterest about starting your first stitch in the turning row. And I agree that my edges do seem straighter and smoother this way).
Once I had a big rectangle, I stitched up the sides together and then pulled one end together. I stuffed it and pulled the other side together. it created a big 'ole ball. (Lion may have called it such before he tried to steal it.)
And the cactus looked fine, but I decided that my cactus needed some flowers. And while most cacti have pink or red flowers, I decided that my little cactus needed some blue flowers. Luckily near the end of the project instructions, it had instructions to make a crochet flower. So once I figured out how to crochet a puff stitch, I had a flower! I easily stitched it on top.
I then placed it in my mug!
Overall I really liked how my cactus looked with one flower, but then I thought about it some more. One flower is nice, but it really needed a couple more. So I made it a couple more and with a little help from my mom, I placed them around the cactus.
And now I feel confident with amigurumi crochet. So be prepared for a lot more in the future!
