Learning How to Sew a Blind Hem

So here we are with my second learning post. For this post, I decided to keep it simple and learn how to properly hem my pants. You see when I transferred to my new restaurant, they gave us pants with our uniform. And over the course of these past five months, the hem in one leg of my pants fell out. And normally, I would have just let it be and worn the pants with the hem out, but while I was reading about all the different stitches and how to use the two different blind hem stitches it can do. So I put two and two together and decided to learn how to properly hem my pants

So for my first attempt I tried to just use my all purpose presser foot and I tried to follow the instructions from the sewing machine. I however didn't understand how to fold my pants right to get the proper blind stitch, so I just fold the pants along the crease.

In the end it didn't look too bad from the inside.

However, on the outside the hem was super visible. So needless to say I did not recreate the blind hem.

So I turned to Pinterest. At first it was to figure out how to use the rolled hem presser foot because I assumed that was the foot I would need. It was not and I ended up learning that the rolled hem presser foot is good to create really thin hems around projects.

So I researched Pinterest for how to put in a blind hem. The first tutorial that came up was from Colette and I love how simple it makes everything. I didn't end up marking my pants because I wasn't shortening my hem; I was just putting it back in.

Anyway from Colette I learned not only how to fold my pants right to create a blind hem on them, but I also learned I had a blind hem presser foot. So I ripped out the the hem I just put in my pants and decided to try actually putting in a blind hem.

And now my pants look almost as good as new!

Except for this one spot where my pants skipped off the presser foot.

So while I'm still not great at the blind hem stitch, I think with a little more practice my pants will look as good as new!
