A is for Apple
I've been seeing a lot of various Quiet Books on Pinterest lately. At first I thought it was a neat idea, but I don't really take the boys anywhere that I need something to entertain them for a while. Then I saw the idea presented as an Activity book and all my creative juices started to flow. And now that my mom is about an hour and half away from I tend to visit her at least once a month and it would definitely be useful to entertain Blue (and eventually Lion).
So here's my start to my Alphabet Activity Book. One page at a time; Two pages a month First letter up is Letter A.
Here's What you Need:
Here's How You Do It:
Step 1: Create Your Apple Tree
The first thing I did was cut out a tree trunk out of some brown felt. I made sure to include some branches as well. On the bottom of the page, I sewed down about a light green felt block. That way my tree had some grass to "grow" in. On the top of the page I sewed down a piece of green felt. I cut around the edges a bit to look like leaves. In the middle of leaf part of my tree, I cut out some holes to stick apples in later and I also embroidered on other leaf breaks.
Step 2: Put The Apples On The Tree
This is where the fun begins! I wanted my apple page to have two different types of apples: apples that were stationary and apples that were movable. So the stationary apples were obviously the easier of the two. All I did was figure out where I wanted to put them and then I sewed them into place. The buttons are still a little loose, so its perfect for the boys to jiggle about on the page.
The movable apples were another story. I'm not sure the best technique for this job, so I decided to use what I know. So in one of the holes I left around the top of the tree, i sewed down some ribbon. On the other side of the ribbon, I folded it down into a triangle.
And then I sewed the button onto the triangle. It definitely worked and I repeated this over several different spots over the page. I even got a little crazy and had one coming out of the A.
The 'A' I cut out of spare minky fabric and I left the top open, so the apple would fit inside it.
Step 3: Finishing Touches To finish off the page, I back stitched on 'is for Apple, next to
And then I order more buttons for another page. So I added a couple more apples to the page and I also added some leafs and a barrel for "apple collecting"
Here's what my finished product looked like:
