Slow Cooker Pizza Casserole

If there a better time to get your wisdom teeth removed than over Mother's Day weekend, then I dare you to name it. Actually I know, most people get them removed while they are in high school (believe me I've heard all the stories these past couple weeks about people getting their wisdom teeth removed.), but I was planning to die with mine, so I never thought about removing them... until they became more and more painful and I just had to get rid of them.

So I guess now you're wondering what this has to do with this week's recipe. Well when I was picking out a recipe to try out this week, I had to keep in mind that I needed something soft and easy to eat. So I was thrilled to find a recipe for pizza casserole. It looked easy (easy enough that I could make it even with my pain meds), and soft (and easy to chew with a sore mouth!), and most importantly it's pizza. More often than not we enjoy pizza on Sundays. So this definitely seemed like the recipe I was looking for.

All right, so I know the recipe uses rigatoni pasta, but I decided to mix it up and try out campanelle instead. (It look really fun in the store, so that's really why I picked that kind of pasta). So while I was waiting for pasta water to boil (and Blue was throwing in pasta noodle by noodle into the warming water). I browned my pound of ground beef.

Once the water was finally boiling, I tried to get Blue to dump the whole box into the water

but he didn't listen and tried to do it a hand full at a time. This lasted until he got splashed a couple of times and I took over for him. And while the pasta continued to cook, I continued to brown my ground beef. Once it was browned (drained of the fat) I mixed in one jar of pizza sauce and once the pasta was done cooking, I mixed all three together.

So with that all combined, finally it was time for Blue and I to put it into the crock pot!

Blue tried his best to get some of the noodles into the crock pot. (And I was there to assist him and make sure our layers were even and none of the noodles ended up on the floor).

Eventually we managed to get the noodle mixture into the crock pot and layered with cheese and pepperoni. And finally it was time to set the crock pot and let the casserole cook together!

And, oh yeah, label the crock pot so we now when to check back on it!

So here is how our pizza casserole turned out

And well I did my best to get it out of the crock pot in one piece, but it didn't work out so well.

In the end it didn't matter how it looked on a plate because Lion loved it

And well Blue like his sandwich... I think...
