DIY Cactus Sun Glasses Holder
So I'm writing this a little late, but, as always, I have a couple of excuses. This week despite having a relatively light work load, I just couldn't make myself do any work this week. I blame this on the fact that I (stupidly!) worked back to back 6 day work weeks at my other job. One week doesn't seem to bother me, but that second week, I just lost my will to do project work.
And well, the few nights I really felt like getting some work done... my very cute kids decided to wake up in the middle of the night and not get back to sleep.
So anyway, by Friday I finally found some mojo. And I was able to make my first run of the sun glasses holder. And well it didn't turn out quite the way I had planned. So it took me an extra day to remake the sun glasses holder and to give a proper test run.

So instead of my normal felt sheets that I use for my activity book, I decided to it up and start using these smaller and stiffer felt sheets that I have. (I like to use them for my felt Pokemon projects).
The problem is that the green I wanted to use for my cactus I used to create the bow ties for my giraffe. So I easily settled on a darker green for my cactus and a "millennial" pink for my pot. I easily measured and cut out rectangle pieces of each.
For extra touch, I trimmed up my green cactus part with my pinking shears.
So with my colors picked out I easily ironed on the thermolam onto my felt. (I actually like to start with ironing on the thermolam side onto the felt and then flip it over and really press the fabrics together.)
I tried my best to decorate my cactus with small white felt triangles. (It didn't quite turn out as I planned, but for my first real attempt I think it looks fine). I also made a blue flower to put on top and I glued it down, but later pulled it off so I could sew the cactus together properly.
Once I had my cactus the way I liked it I pinned the pot to the cactus and got to sewing it together.
So here is how my holder looked after I sewed it all together. The most important part is that my sun glasses slide easily in and out.
As a finishing touch, I hot glued my blue flower back on. And then I sewed the sides together.
Its definitely lot more square than the project. But I think for my first real attempt at it, it'll do.
