Cast Iron Skillet Handle Covers

After almost non stop crocheting through June and July, I felt a little burnt out. So when it came to picking my August crochet project, I couldn't figure out what I wanted to crochet. I looked a bunch of different patterns and none of them inspired me at all. (Plus I ran out of stuffing when I made the knot pillows, so I knew I couldn't make any more stuffed animals). Eventually I settled on a perfect little stash buster project... and one I asked Mike if he wanted me to make for him a while ago and never got around to making...

There really is nothing to this pattern. (And that's really what drew me to it!) I know that the pattern says to repeat the last row until the cover is 5 inches long, but my cast iron skillet handle dips in a little, I made my handle cover dip in a little too.

From my little yarn ball I was able to crochet one complete handle cover and one that's about 75% complete.

Both still cover the handle of the cast iron skillet nicely!

The shorter one actually goes on easier than the longer one because its not as tight on the end.

And of course I wanted to see if the handle covers would actually worked. (Mike had his doubts!) So I found an easy cast iron skillet recipe, that didn't involve putting the skillet into the oven.

I was able to cook the entire meal with the handle cover on. It definitely worked. My hand only got a little warm! I just need figure out a cover for the other side!
