Incredible Dish Tabs (That Are Great for Hand Washing!)
I often times have projects lined up, so I know what has to be done by when and when I need to have a post about it up by. However sometimes life throws me a bit of a curve ball and things don't exactly go as planned. And this is the case for today's post. I had planned writing all about fizzy toilet bombs. However either my toilet was way too dirty or I didn't make them right or they just don't work. Either way I want to try that project again before I make my finally conclusion. (And give my toilet a good scrub in the meantime.)
So instead I switched my attention to another area that could use a little improvement in the cleaning department: my dish washing. We currently do not have a dishwasher (and I'm not sure if we'll get one unless we move either!), so I do the dishes by hand. And despite all the times I've read how to wash dishes properly, I still like doing it with running water and more using more Dawn than I probably should. Overall its a bit of a mess.
So I was more than pleased to find a project to make dish tabs, and one that didn't fully state they should be used for your dishwasher. So I decided to make them and try them for my own hand washing.

I found making the dish tabs was really easy. I halved the recipe since I only have on ice cube tray and it easily made more than enough dish tabs. In fact the only issue I had was filling my ice cube tray. I tried to fill them completely, but by the time I was three spots down the first spot was starting to puff up greatly. So then I would pull the extra off and it would sink back down. This went on for a little bit. So I think for my next round I'll only fill my slots about halfway full.
Once I finally decided to give up trying to fill the slots up fully (and just let the dish tabs puff up as they wanted), I set the ice cube tray aside over night. And once they were full dry I moved them over into a repurposed jelly jar.
Obviously making them is no problem. The real question is if they actually work. And to properly test them out, I used them on a particular rough set of dirty dishes.
Yup that's a couple of used cookie sheets with stuck on food and probably some grease too! Since there were so many dishes in my sink, I decided to use two dish tabs.
And by the end the dirty water looked particularly gross, but the dish tabs did work. My dishes were easy to clean. And the food and grease easily washed right off my cookie sheets!
Needless to say, I love them and I will definitely be continuing to use them and I will be continuing to hand wash my dishes the better way, too. And if we ever do get a dishwasher, I'll be sure to test them in there as well!
