Upcycle Neck Tie Pouches!
All right... I'll confess I've actually had this project saved for at least a year now and I just never got around to trying it. At first I was just waiting to switch from my old job into the new job, so that I would have ties to destroy. And then I just kept pushing it back because I was having so much fun with playing with the plarn that I just forgot all about it.
But since I took a little break from crocheting this month, I finally rediscovered the project and I knew I just had to try it for this month's upcycle project!
The Project
Upcycle Old Ties into Zipper Pouches
Instructions from PolkaDotChair
Supplies Needed:
Old Neck Ties
1 Fat Quarter (or lining fabric)
Optional: Zipper Foot

So I started with these our ties. This way I would have a front and back piece to all my ties!
The ties came apart really easily. I easily cut through the stitches and the only problems I had was breaking the stitches around the two ends of the ties.
Once I had my ties cut I ironed them as best I could. I still ended with a couple of creases, but I just worked with them. I cut my ties into 10 inch long strips, however none of my tie pieces were 7 inches wide. Unfortunately I had already cut my interfacing and lining pieces to 7 x 10 inch rectangles. I decided the way to fix my problem was to start sewing my tie pieces together and create a patch work tie pouch.
It ended up working out better than I thought it would. The only issue I had was that a couple of my ties were made of a thinner material and I didn't iron on the interfacing just right, so the outside panels ended up a little wrinkly in places.
I didn't let stop my upcycle. And after a couple of days of working up the nerves to put in a zipper, I finally started putting the pouches together!
Actually putting the zipper in was a lot easier than I remembered.
All that was left to do was stitch the sides together
Flip it right side out and finally whip stitch the opening together!
And so far I've been able to make two tie pouches!
